How to Build a Solo, Wed, 6-7pm, Spring 2018, 8 weeks

Prepare to take to the stage or woo your lover in the budoir!

This class is for the dedicated and performane-inclined. It requires weekly attendance, has weekly homework, asks for regualr "show n tell" of completed work in class, requires the purchase or construction of costuming and props by week two of the session and is intensive training towards having a show-ready or bedroom-ready act by week 8 . This class is challenging and therefore many of our students attend this class multiple times (discounted Reviewer Rate can be applied to re-working or repeating a choreography). Again- it is perfect for those performance-minded students ready to 'level up' and are driven.

Before attending this class students should already have a clearly defined sense of who their stage persona is, an instructors-approved stage name, knowledge of what classic v. neo burlesque is, has attended a Beauty Parlour event and has a clear definition of the act that will be completed during this course. Your song choice needs to be selected and approved of PRIOR to week one of classes. We do this to insure it's not being/been used by someone else in classes or the local burlesque community and that you are prepared to take off right out of the gate. This class is fast-paced.

The act should be clearly defined as to whether it's classic, neo, comedy, gender-bending, etc

The costume and props should be clearly outlined and the student should be prepared for feedback.

The student should know prior to starting class, where the costume can be purchased/designed/created as well as where props can be obtained/designed/created. (We have an excellent costumier we can refer you to but she will need advance notice of your order).

Students are asked to be prepared to accept feedback from the instructor(s) as well as from other students in class. Students should have an open mind, a readiness and willingness to push to the end and to cheer on their classmates.

BRING: Any costume items and props being removed/used in the act, dance journal, and a healthy positive mindset.
